Under a shady tree or perhaps the side of our canopy, the students will work at tables and chairs. They are also welcome to work on the grass with a clipboard.
Each child will have curriculum that is centered around them and their interests/needs. We follow the California Common Core standards, but believe that we can incorporate them based on the students interests. Our first two weeks of school are focused on getting to know your child, their strengths, and finding where they need extra help. We will base lessons on inquiries and interests made by the students. Math, reading, social students, writing, science, and art projects will be tailored to the needs/levels of the individual student. Our teachers are experienced in Montessori and project based style learning. A large focus will also be placed on the social and emotional learning of the students. Our curriculum implements strategies that will encourage the students self-esteem, grit, and growth mindset.
Our teachers are multi-talented and on top of academic instruction, can offer enrichment experiences such as music lessons with a focus on sheet music, piano, and the recorder, chess instruction, art instruction, physical education, introductory gymnastics, sewing, cooking lessons, and wilderness survival.
Our private school is similar to a homeschool extension program in the way it is classified. In order to enroll, you must complete a homeschool affidavit through the state of California. We can help guide you through the process. This is essential to do because it lets the state know your child is being educated. By sending your student to Wild Child, we will be acting as an extension of you, their parent and ultimate teacher. We will not be collecting any health forms. We believe you will make the best decision for your family regarding your child's health. Your student can be enrolled part time or can be with us the full week of instruction.
Here at Wild Child, we believe children should be allowed to grow up slowly. We do not believe it is beneficial to send endless amounts of homework home with our students. This instills an unhealthy work/life balance in them from a young age which is difficult to unlearn as an adult. Homework will consist of reading at home independently or with a guardian.
Mr. Jasper and Ms. Sarina will be teaching the students music theory and how to play the piano for 30-40 minutes each Monday. If you wish for your students to practice at home, we recommend 15-20 minutes each day.
Ms. Yalia and Mr. Anthony are our Spanish teachers. They will be teaching the students Spanish basics through stories, songs, and games. For students who have exposure to more Spanish, they can converse solely in Spanish for more of a Spanish immersion experience.
Mr. Ryan's class is amazing! He brings instruments for all the students from ukele's to xylophones. The kids sing, dance, play, and learn in the interactive music class. Mr. Ryan's class is $15 extra a week. Check Mr. Ryan out on youtube or his website. https://www.mrryansmusicandbooks.com/
German speakers and German learners will be supported by Ms. Sarina. Our director leads a German class for those kiddos signed up for it. Lessons include stories, beginner conversation, beginner vocabulary, and games led in German.
Mr. Jasper is our expert on native plants and marine life in San Diego. At the beaches, we will be learning to identify marine life that can be found along our beautiful coasts. As the weather gets cooler and our class moves to the trails and canyons, our focus will shift to native animals, native and edible plants.
